I own a dolnet Alto sax from 1952. Original pads and all. Gorgeous lacquer still. Needs an overhaul at this point. 68839J looks to be the ser. I'm trying to figure out, to keep it or swap for a playable yamaha or something. I just bought a Dolnet tenor that the seller said was from 'the late 1970's', but it has a serial number of 58,239C. I think 'post WWII' and 'pre-1960' might be more accurate. Could be that the materials used in making the case will give the best clues as to date. This is the only tenor i've owned, being a baritone player originally and only moving to play tenor seriously in the last 2 years. In the bell it says UNIVERSAL, but Im most certain that it is a late ( transitional maybe) Bel air Tenor, which are supposed to finish near 80000, only to be continued by M70 ( a quite different style of manufacture for Dolnet) and not Universals. gorgeous saxophone. The diamond shaped connection between
the tube and bell was thought to be introduced together with
the first Bel Air models. As was common this could
be a transition model. Series II from 1940 to 1950.
